Michael Kors God's Love We Deliver gala

Three's company: Kate Hudson, Michael Kors and Anna Wintour

With equal parts star power and feel-good spirit, the God’s Love We Deliver 10th Annual Golden Heart Awards dinner held last night at Spring Studios certainly lived up to its name—delivering a night to remember and raising plenty of proceeds for the organization.

As has become tradition, Anna Wintour and Michael Kors kicked off the VIP arrivals together, before Kate Hudson worked the red carpet with typically optimistic glamour in a bold floral wrap dress straight off the Spring 2017 runway. Models Chrissy Teigen, Joan Smalls and Lily Aldridge looked sleek and chic in a series of LBDs, while Vanessa Moody and Kelly Rohrbach turned heads in crimson.

After photos and cocktails, Neil Patrick Harris, an awardee last year, began the speeches for the evening with typical heartwarming humor before God’s Love We Deliver CEO Karen Pearl introduced the first honouree of the evening, Wing Tat Leung. One of the organization’s longest-serving volunteers, Tat joined the God’s Love community as part of a transition program for special-needs persons and has since logged over 26,000 hours of service during the past two decades. “Tat adores being at God’s Love and helping to take care of all of our clients. But what you might not know about Tat – and trust me, you will by the end of the night — is that he gives the most generous hugs in the world,” said Pearl as she presented the award.
Actress Priyanka Chopra then introduced Michael Kors, who announced Karlie Kloss as the recipient of the Michael Kors award for Outstanding Community Service. “Karlie may have become a household name through her work as a model, but she has since used that platform to empower women and inspire change on a grand scale,” said Michael Kors of Kloss.
Chef Marcus Samuelsson introduced the final honoree of the evening, presenting the Golden Heart Award for Lifetime Achievement to his friend Danny Meyer, who has been working with God’s Love since the 1990s. “I’m not a model, but like Tat, I also give really great hugs,” the world-famous restaurateur quipped as he accepted the award.
Between speeches, guests participated in a rousing auction that raised more than two million dollars to help ensure that those suffering from life-altering illness and their families receive nutrition and never go hungry.
“Every time you take care of someone, whether you’re one of the volunteers or whether you’re someone who’s funding it, you’re changing a life, but you’re also doing something for yourself,” said Meyers as he wrapped up the night’s event. “What really amazes me about this organization—and it’s this feeling that keeps you doing it—is that when you give a hug, you get one back.” Needless to say, there were plenty of hugs throughout the night.
